As e-health is becoming nowadays a must in medical care to optimize health care for patients with chronical disease and to ensure a better lifespan for them.
Diabetes as a well-known chronicle disease, requires daily follow up from the patient and his doctor to maintain a healthy life style.
As innovation through technology is becoming an inevitable component in our life, with new technologies and concepts emerging every day, experts are focusing in bringing such technologies to diabetes medical care by creating new approaches and medications for patients worldwide.
From this simple ascertainment, was born the concept of Hacking Diabetes: innovating in healthcare by using the most recent and innovative technologies.
Novo Nordisk in collaboration with ATH consulting, a company specialised in e-health, started the adventure by bringing together IT engineers, healthcare professionals and patients in the World Diabetes Day to rethink how it is lived by patients.
For three days, more than 40 IT students, Patients and doctors gathered in the Polytechnic School of Tunis to rethink and submit new solutions for people living with diabetes.
During these days, the eleven teams were coached by experts in specific fields as doctors, pharmacists, economists, IT engineers and e-health experts helping the participants to assess how to manage diabetes and what technological tools can provide to enhance the daily life of patients.
As the competition was intense, the ideas that emerged were the most innovative and holistic ideas we ever observed in the e-health medical care for diabetics.
After two days of pitching and coding, 8 projects were presented to the jury and two won the award of the best projects.
· Diabemeeties; an app to ease the meetings and gathering of diabetic people in order to share their experience with educative games integrated in the app to teach users about healthy food choices.
· Diachain, a platform for doctors to assist them in treatment choices thanks to its IA. The recommendations are based on other doctor’s experiences, international recommendations and shared experiences.
A digital board will be created gathering experts from relevant fields and will mentor the winning teams until the projects are completely developed and ready for distribution to the diabetic community.
With its patient centred approach and the implication of all the stakeholders in the medical care of diabetes, Novo Nordisk Tunisia through hacking diabetes steps enter firmly into the digital area and takes medical care of people with diabetes in Tunisia to the next level.
